Six-year-old begins 100-mile cycle challenge for Breast Cancer Scotland

A Moray schoolboy is cycling 100 miles this month to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

Lewis Mackay, from Keith, will take on the challenge during June to help his auntie Trisha Davidson’s fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Care.

The six-year-old has already clocked up 27 miles and raised more than £2,500 alongside his dad.

Mrs Davidson was set to host her eleventh annual strawberry tea which has raised more than £27,000 over the years, but the event has had to be reduced to limited deliveries due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, she is thrilled that her nephew Lewis has joined her in the fundraising mission to help Breast Cancer Care.

She said that the fundraiser was a great opportunity to support the charity as it deals with the financial implications of the pandemic.

She said: “He just loves going out on his bike with his dad.

“His family thought it would be a good idea for him to do a charity cycle and the funds would go to my strawberry tea.

“So far we have raised quite a large amount and it is great  to see how generous people are during these tough times.

“It is brilliant to support the charity especially with all the uncertainty surrounding fundraisers across the country.”

Meanwhile, Lewis’s father Kyle said that the youngster had set the original fundraising target of £250 after being unsure how the page would do.

However, after a few days, the generous public helped Mackay smash the target with ease.

He added: “His mum and granny suggested the idea and he said it would be great.

“He is doing really well and it is unbelievable the amount he has raised already on the page.

“At first we just set the target at £250 as we weren’t sure how successful the fundraiser would be however so far he has raised well over that amount.

“He has been clocking up the miles quite easily on his bike.

“The family think he is a big star for the fundraiser.”
