‘Until cures are found our mission will remain’
A Wallington mum has spoken on how she is keeping her baby boy’s memory alive after he died last year.
‘Max the Brave’ lost his battle to cancer just days before his first birthday.
His parents Suzanne and Barry were in complete awe when they met their “tiny little hero” for the first time on August 29 2018.
They say the ray of sunshine was “always full of smiles and laughter” and “perfect in every single way”.
But then a few months later, Max was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer.
The months ahead saw the family on a turbulent journey; with days of Max dancing and laughing and others being informed of the devastating news that his tumour had grown.

But the one thing which remained consistant was the “impeccable” care he received.
Suzanne said: “Max spent half of his life under the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital including a six-week stint in the intensive care unit.
“The care we received was flawless.
“Max managed to smile every day up on the wards even through intense chemotherapy.
“This is down to the impeccable care of the nurses, doctors, playworkers, ward cleaners- everyone played their special part in our journey, they became our friends.”
She added: “Sadly at just 11 months old Max’s cancer grew through treatment.
“Due to the rarity of his particular disease, there was no further treatment available.”
Max sadly passed away on August 11 2019.
Following his death, ‘Max The Brave Fund’ was born and his family have been helping others ever since.
To date, the fund has raised over £36,000 for charities that helped them during Max’s fight.
Max’s mother reflects following what would’ve been his 2nd birthday last month.
“The lead up was pretty tough but by fundraising and doing positive things in his memory we were able to turn it around.
“It’s always going to be hard, you can never get over your child’s death, especially after seeing them suffer through cancer treatment.
She added: “You can’t put a price on love, since Max passed away we have raised £36,800 for charities that have helped us along the way.
“Including Great Ormond Street Hospital where we lived with Max for most of his life, the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Shooting Star Hospice where Max spent his final days.
“There is always room for fundraising.
“Until cures are found and suffering has ended our mission to fundraise will remain.
“No amount will ever be enough and it is my duty to carry on in Max’s name forever.”
This October Team Max The Brave will be dusting off their running shoes and racing for the kids at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The fundraiser reached £855 at the time of publishing.
